RestoreStephenBaldwin.org--Really?
mjacton

In 2002, Stephen Baldwin became a Christian.  Since then, he has been spending most of his time writing and promoting a book and trying to reach kids through motocross and extreme sports.  In my opinion, he had been handling himself and his new-found faith well until last year when he appeared on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.  Of course, editing didn't help him look good, but he knew going in that would be an issue.  Besides, you can't make someone say "I'm on your team, Lord" (appealing to God to help him win a coin flip) on camera.

Now, someone in Live Oak, FL has decided that Stephen Baldwin needs to have his wealth restored to him, and he's appealing to Christians (the "People of God") to do just that through their donations.  According to the site, Baldwin's income has gone down 70% since 2002, and he's declared bankruptcy.  And, according to the site, the reason for all this financial trouble is that the hollywood establishment is punishing Baldwin by not offering him movie roles because he's a Christian.  Reading the Q&A section on the website raises a whole host of other questions, but I'll leave that alone for now.

Now, I don't know how much blame Stephen Baldwin himself should take for this stunt, but apparently he gave his permission for this site to be built.  So, at the very least, I blame him for not stopping it.  There are several other Christian actors out there who are not appealing to the Christian community for money, and they're having a more or less positive impact on their world.  The ones I can think of off the top of my head are:

1.  Kirk Cameron (and his sister Candace Cameron Buré
2. Jim Caviezel
3.  Kristin Chenoweth
4. Zachary Levi
5. Mel Gibson

Okay, so Mel Gibson's record is mixed, but he's not in the poorhouse like Stephen Baldwin apparently is.  And, he's not asking for money.  So, what do you think?  Am I missing something?  Should Christians be in the business of restoring millions of dollars to a previously rich actor?  I'll finish with one question and answer from the site that I think indicates the ambiguous motives of the people behind this "movement."

Q- Why does Stephen need personal wealth?
A- Stephen’s influence is in Hollywood. Hollywood worships money and without it you are seen as a loser and cannot be an effective influence to this group.

It seems to me that if Stephen Baldwin's regains his personal wealth, the person who will benefit the most will be Baldwin himself.
